Privacy policy
We collect very little, most of it only if you choose to send it, and we do not sell any of it.

What we collect, and when
Reading the site. Our hosting provider logs the standard technical details of every request (IP address, browser, pages requested) to serve the site and defend it against abuse. We do not run third-party advertising or analytics trackers on the public site.
Clicking a shop link. When you click a "Check price" or "Shop" link, we record the click so we can see which pages send readers to which stores. That record holds the page you came from, your browser's user-agent string, the time, and a one-way hash of your IP address that cannot be turned back into the address. Some links also pass a tracking code to the retailer so we can be paid a commission; the retailer's own privacy policy applies once you arrive there.
Leaving a review. A reader review asks for a display name and an email address. The name is published with the review; the email is not published and is used only to confirm you are one person leaving one review and, if needed, to ask about the review. We also keep the hashed IP address to limit spam.
Suggesting or sending us a product. The suggestion form asks for a name and email so we can reply. We keep the request until it is handled, then for our records.
Signing in. Staff and brand accounts sign in through Supabase authentication, which sets a session cookie. That cookie exists only for signed-in users; readers never receive it.
Cookies
The public site uses no cookies of its own. Signed-in staff and brand partners receive a session cookie needed to stay signed in. We do not use cookies to track readers across other websites.
Who we share it with
- Service providers that run the site for us: Vercel (hosting) and Supabase (database, authentication and file storage). They process data on our instructions.
- Retailers and affiliate networks receive the click described above when you follow a shop link.
- Nobody else. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for other companies' marketing.
How long we keep it
Click records are kept for up to 24 months for reporting, then aggregated. Reviews stay published until you ask us to remove them. Suggestion requests are kept while they are open and for two years afterwards. Hosting logs are kept by our provider for a short period on a rolling basis.
Your choices and rights
You can read the site without giving us anything. If you have left a review or a request, you can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it by writing to hello@wiseconsumer.com. We answer within 30 days. Residents of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and other states with privacy laws have the rights those laws give them; we honor them for everyone, wherever you live. We do not discriminate against you for exercising them.
Children
The site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes we update the effective date at the top. Material changes are also noted on the blog.
